Sturdy, with a nice balance
I'm a petite person with petite hands, and this nakiri knife has a nice weight to it while also feeling very balanced. It cuts very well and has kept a nice sharp edge for the short time I've had it. I do not know how well it will hold up over time, but for now I am quite pleased. I prefer it for cutting up fruits and veggies over my other knives which are stainless steel, because this one is slightly heavier yet smaller, and it feels like I have more control over it. The edge is nice and sharp and floats through veggies like butter. I love it. Considering how well it handles, it's a bargain at around an Andrew Jackson. If Caphalon's other knives are this good, I might just start a collection.

One of my favorite knives on my rack
Yes, it's a cheaper knife. Yes, it's small. The old adage that all you will ever need is a good chef's knife is true to a point, but I find myself using this way more than my big old clunky chefs knife. It's small, agile and makes chopping up small veg and small portion items a snap. Sometimes the standard chef's knife just gets in the way.I've had this about 6 months now and still use it a lot. Matter of fact I use this more than my similar sized Henckel. This knife has a great balance, a nice heft without being too heavy and isn't so expensive I'm afraid to use it and abuse it.Let's put it this way. If I lost/broke this knife. I'd buy it again the very same day.

It is a great size, and cut vegetables and fruits well
I purchased this knife on December 13, 2015, and took it with me to my vacation house. It is a great size, and cut vegetables and fruits well. On July 27, 2016, the knife handle broke away from the blade in my husband's hand. Inside of the handle was rusted. We only hand washed it, because we don't have a dishwasher. I know it's one of the lesser priced Nakiri knives available, but I did expect it to be of better quality and withstand minimal use.I don't recommend this knife.

Think twice before buying
Dreadful investment, despite the bargain price. In knives, you get what you pay for....and in my particular experience, I was sent a "return" or refurbished knife. Not what I expect from Calphalon or Amazon. It was returned for full credit.

I have size men's size large hands and the back of the handle always felt like it was getting in the way
I think you need medium or small hands for this knife. I have size men's size large hands and the back of the handle always felt like it was getting in the way. Not comfortable at all for me. As others have said, this is one good looking knife.

A pleasant surprise.
I bought this knife purely on the strength of the other knives in the LX range, and the positive reviews found here. I had never used a nakiri before, and was unsure as to how much I would ever actually reach for it.This is my go-to knife now whenever I do vegetable prep. While you lose the flexibility of a chef's knife, I actually just keep a paring knife on hand because I love this knife enough to dirty another knife to use it. The compact form factor, in conjunction with the shape of the thing, means that it just falls through vegetables, whether you're chopping soft tomatoes or hard carrots. Chop is the key word there; this is not a western chef's knife, and the flat blade means that you can't 'rock and roll' with it. It did take me at least a little time to get comfortable lifting the knife blade to cut every time, while still maintaining a little precision. However, this thing is just a delight to use, and I'd recommend it for anyone's collection. Build quality is quite high, like all of the LX knives.

Great Size - Practical
I was going to buy a Shun this size to go with my set, but I wasn’t sure if I’d like the size/style. So when I saw this on sale for 20 and change, I thought I’d pick it up to see how the wife and I like it.It’s now our favorite knife in the kitchen. Seriously lol.Ok so the knife isn’t the “best” quality/steel, but it’s actually not bad at all. The handle flares out at the back for a secure grip, I really like that, and the grind was pretty darn good out of the box too. It’s a bit light for me, but my wife loves that it is so...I’ve honed it a few times now. It takes an edge. Easily.Overall, this thing is a pretty darn good value! We aren’t going to replace it with a VG10 Shun, this thing works just fine. We use it on just about everything! From potato’s to tomatoes.Great size. Great value.

FIVE INCHES
Measure out five inches and you'll know how short your knife is going to be. The build is of good quality and I was impressed with the feel and the ability to comfortably use right out of the box. Was expecting a thicker blade though... Don't know why ... But for $20 bucks ... It's a good addition to the kitchen.... Had a go with it on a 1000/6000 grit water stone... Took a good edge and chops veggies with ease.
